PSJA North HS Lugo Headed to Trinity

(Pharr, Texas)-He rushed for more than 1,104 yards and scored 18 touchdowns, caught another 243 yards his senior year and captured High School Sports Magazine’s All-Purpose Player of the Year, today, he signed his NCAA DIII National letter of intent to play football at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

Lugo, a transfer from McAllen High School, came to PSJA North his sophomore season and head football coach Marcus Kaufmann gave him an opportunity to play football with the Raiders. “He was a raw athlete and we moved him around a lot to various positions. He was a great player and he grew from there,” said Kaufmann. “He was a unselfish player.” The 6’2 all-purpose player wants to pursue a degree in law. “I want to become a lawyer. I always had the drive to protect the innocent,” said Lugo.

In 2021, the PSJA North Raiders advanced to the UIL State 6A Regional Football Championships and played eventual state champions, Austin Westlake at the Alamodome in San Antonio. But, for Lugo, he’s looking forward to what lies ahead. “I had a blast playing high school football and I’m very proud of my parents for their support. Now, it’s time to move forward and not look back,” says Lugo. “Heck, anytime you score six touchdowns in the playoffs against Harlingen South, all I can say is that I beat Al Bundy’s four touchdowns.”
