(McAllen, Texas)-The 32-5A runner-ups, Brownsville Lopez Lady Lobos (25-2) are headed to round two of the University Interscholastic League Softball playoffs after sweeping 31-5A third place, McAllen in the Best of Three series 2-0 in the 5A State Bi-District Softball Championships on Friday night. With the win, the Lady Lobos will meet 29-5A Champions, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (23-8), 24-0 winners over Mission this coming week with site to be determined.

The Lady Lobos scored three runs in the first inning on four straight hits off McAllen senior pitcher, Sarah Menard (7-4) as the Lady Lobos picked up 18 hits throughout the night to win 11-1 in Game Two. The Lady Lobos were led by junior pitcher, Jenny Shank (9-2), who struck out eleven McHi batters. “We played a good game tonight,” said Lobos head coach, Jesse Martinez. “We held them scoreless with one unearned run.” He was drenched after his HSSM Interview with silly string and Gatorade.
