(Harlingen, Texas)-The 32-6A Harlingen Lady Cardinals (20-11) knocked off 31-6A Edinburg North 3-2 (17-15) in the Game One of the Best of Three series on Thursday night in the University Interscholastic League Class 5A Bi-District playoffs. Game Two resumes tonight at 7:00 p.m. The winner of this series will meet San Antonio Brennan or Laredo LBJ in the area playoffs. In more 6A games, 31-6A La Joya (21-4) blanked 32-6A Los Fresnos 10-0 while 31-6A PSJA picked up a win over 32-6A San Benito in Game One of the Best of Three series. Winner will meet 30-6A Eagle Pass or 29-6A SA O’Connor in round two of the playoffs.
In Class 5A, 32-5A Harlingen South (26-2) shutout Edinburg Vela 10-0 in Game One of the UIL State 5A Bi-District playoffs and play will resume this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. with Game Two. The winner will meet 29-5A Victoria East or 30-5A Laredo Nixon.
The 30-5A La Joya Palmview Lady Lobos (24-7) defeated Gregory-Portland 3-1 in Game One of the Best of Three series at the Portland Sports Complex. Lady Lobos pitcher Arianna Alaniz struck out 14 batters and she now has 356 strikeouts for the season. In the lower bracket, 29-5A Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (23-8) eliminated Mission Veterans 24-0 in a one-game series and they will meet 31-5A McAllen (18-7-1) or 32-5A Brownsville Lopez (24-2) in the second round. The Lady Bulldogs lost to the Lady Lobos 10-0 in Game One. Game Two is set for tonight in McAllen at 7:00 p.m.
In Class 4A Bi-District, the Calallen Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning over the Raymondville Bearkats as they rolled 17-0 for the win. The Lady Bearkats had seven errors in the one-game playoff series. The Lady Wildcats will play Ingleside or Pearshall in the area playoffs. The Bishop Badgers defeated Port Isabel 8-1 in Game Oner while the 32-4A La Feria Lady Lions lost to CC Tuloso-Midway 10-0 in their Best of Three series.
In Class 3A, IDEA Quest eliminated the Progreso Lady Red Ants 24-11 in a one-game series and they will play Taft or CC London in the second round while Lyford gets a first round Bye and they await the winner from Mathis or Hebbronville. In more games, Rio Hondo eliminated IDEA Edinburg and will play the winner of Goliad or San Diego.
Moving on to Class 2A, 32-2A La Villa lost Game One 6-0 to 31-2A Three Rivers. The winner of this series will meet Charlotte or Schulenburg.
