(Edinburg, Texas)-The Edinburg Bobcats could surprise District 31-6A with new head football coach Rene Guzman. A former graduate and football player from Edinburg HS in 1988 with head coach Richard R. Flores, Guzman is proud of his Bobcat Pride. “We made the playoffs and beat Weslaco in the playoffs that year,” says Guzman. “Our standards will be high. I feel good about our season. We have had a great response with practices.” 

   With 30 returning lettermen, Guzman is looking forward to this season and he says, “It’s great to be coaching at Edinburg High School.”

   Returning at quarterback is senior Roland Abrego (480 yards passing 5 TDs),  RB Abraham Gonzalez, RB Noel Serna, OL Alesandro Escobedo, WR Edwin Muniz, and WR Dylan Garza. 

  On defense, the Bobcats returns LB Jonathon Duran (5’11 190lbs), DB Ben Gonzalez (5’10 175lbs), LB Ryhan Gudino, DB Albert Armendariz, DL Jordan Ayala, and LB Raymond Vasquez.  

   The Bobcats will open their 1,000th game against McAllen on August 27th at home. “We will play one-game at a time this season,” says Guzman. 

The Bobcats will open District 31-6A against La Joya Juarez-Lincoln on September 9th.
