(Edinburg, Texas)-A new coaching era will kickoff in 2021 with Sean Van de Merghel. He comes to Edinburg Economedes High School from Edinburg Vela High School, where he was the offensive coordinator for the past five seasons. Players are excited with their new head coach as the Jaguars will move to a spread offense. The Jags will be thirsty for a playoff bid in 2021.

The Jags will kickoff its season with two scrimmages against Harlingen South at home on August 13th followed by Brownsville Pace on August 19th.

If the Jaguars can survive their two scrimmages, barring any key injuries, the Jaguars will be primed when they travel to play PSJA Southwest High School on Thursday night, August 26th. The Jags will play another non-district game against Roma High School at Richard R. Flores Stadium on September 3rd before kicking off their 31-6A season against Edinburg North on September 10th.

The Jags struggled on offense in 2018, scoring only 133 points and they bettered the 2019 season, scoring 141 points on offense.  “We are looking forward to this season as we get back,” says Van de Merghel.

The Jaguars will have a lot work to do as they prepare for 2021. The Jags were outscored 212-48 in the five-game 31-6A shorten season. “We have a lot of work to do and we are excited,” says Van de Merghel.
