(Edinburg, Texas)-Head coach Damian Gonzalez led his Edinburg North (2-5, 2-4) Cougars football program to the UIL State 6A Division I football playoffs last season in his third year, after Edinburg HS had to forfeit their spot due to disciplinary reasons.    Gonzalez hopes to make it three playoff runs in a row with a talented squad, “Every team is balanced and it will be exciting,” says Gonzalez. “Teams in 31-6A will be competitive.”   

   The Cougars return five starters on offense and five starters on defense. Players to watch are DT Trebor Acuna on defense at 6’2 along with LB Daniel Rodriguez 6’0, SS Giovanni Gonzalez SS, Eduardo Molina LB, and Isaiah Cepeda DT. ard Ruiz. 

   The Cougars will see returning QB Evan Medrano (5’11 165lbs) surrounded by an offensive line with junior WR Richard Ruiz returning at 6’6” 220lbs.  Players to watch are OL Evan Garcia 6’1 275lbs, OL Martin Barrera 5’11 245lbs, OL Jose Zuniga 6’3 265lbs, OL Evan Alvarado 6’2 280lbs, OL Steven Flores 6’1 235lbs, and OL Juan Alvarado 6’5 280lbs. “We are excited to kickoff this season,” adds Gonzalez. “It will be fun.”
