(Brownsville, Texas)-The 32-5A Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers (25-4-2) just keeps Charging! In the Class 5A Region IV Baseball Area finals, the Chargers swept Rio Grande City 6-1, 2-0 to advance to its first UIL State 5A Region IV Baseball Quarterfinals appearance. The Chargers will meet District Champs, 29-5A Victoria East (28-9) this weekend in the Best of Three series all at Cabaniss field on Friday at 7:00 p.m. Game Two will be played on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. followed by Game Three, if necessary.

The Titans are led by left handed senior pitcher Gage Goldman, a 6’2 fast baller who shutout Sharyland Pioneer 1-0 in the Class 5A Area playoffs. He struck out nine batters and walked two. He allowed three hits with two walks. He is 9-1 in his last ten games. The Chargers are expected to put ace, senior Carlos Garza on the mound in Game One (10-1) who has 126 strikeouts this season and has an impressive 0.90 era, allowing just 28 hits and 13 walks.

The winner will meet runner-up 25-5A Cedar Park or third place 25-5A Leander Rouse in the University Interscholastic League Baseball Region IV Semifinals next week.
