(McAllen, Texas)-McAllen Memorial HS (22-13, 11-6) interim head basketball coach, Dan Richardson watched his team almost pull off an upset, before falling to McAllen Nikki Rowe (23-10, 14-3) 50-47 in a key game. Richardson led the Lady Mustangs, despite head coach Clarissa Arredondo was nowhere to be seen for undisclosed reasons. McAllen ISD did not issue any statements.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Lady Mustangs had its opportunities to pull off a real upset, but missed shots proved to hinder the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Mustangs managed to take the lead with 6:34 left 40-37 but the Lady Warriors never gave up. Two steals any Rowe’s Silah Flores proved to be costly, giving the Lady Warriors a 41-40 lead as they never looked back. However, with less than :17 seconds left to play, a Lady Warriors pass went out of bounds, giving the Lady Mustangs one more chance to win it all, trailing 44-43. The Lady Mustangs missed out on that final opportunity.
