(McAllen, Texas)-On Friday night, McAllen Memorial HS 6’5 center, Caden Keller, slammed-dunk his way late in the fourth quarter as the Mustangs (21-6, 10-2) delivered a statement against McAllen Nikki Rowe (9-6, 21-12), winning 68-40 in District 31-5A at Rowe HS. The win keeps the Mustangs in sole possession of second place with the Edinburg Vela Sabercats at 14-0 in district play. “We played a very good team tonight and we are two games behind Vela,” said Rick Trevino, Mustang head basketball coach. “We play Vela next Friday night.”

Mustang point guard Danny Canul nailed three straight three-pointers in the second half to put the Mustangs up 37-22 late in the third quarter. He ended the night with a team high 21 points. Teammate Mando Trevino also had a big night scoring three three-pointers to finish the night with 20 points.

With 6:17 left to play, Keller took over, scoring eight straight points under center, including a slammed-dunk, bringing Mustangs fans to their feet with cheers. (HSSMImages)
