(Edinburg, Texas)-The State 5A Division I ranked No.6 PSJA North Raiders (5-0, 2-0) did what they do best, play defense, as the “Men in Black” raided the Edinburg Vela Sabercats 30-0 in a key District 15-5A Division I showdown played at Richard R. Flores Stadium before a sellout crowd. “You just don’t go play the Edinburg Vela Sabercats and expect to beat them for the second year in row,” said PSJA North Raiders Head Coach, Marcus Kaufmann. “They played us tough and I’m just proud of our defense. They stepped it up tonight.”

The defending District 15-5A Division I Champions Raiders has done the inevitable by defeating the Sabercats for the second straight season. What’s more impressive, for the fourth time in five games, the Raiders defense has not given up points. The Raiders will now take the week off and will play host to La Joya Palmview (2-3, 0-2) on October 5th while the Sabercats (4-1, 1-1) will travel to play Rio Grande City (2-3, 1-1) on October 6th.

From the get go, the Raiders took control. PSJA North RB Jayden Fuentes returned the opening kickoff 84-yards to the Edinburg Vela seven-yard line. A few plays later, Raider QB Julius Arredondo scored to make it 7-0. The Raiders led 17-0 at the half. The Raiders continued its onslaught in the second half with two more scores by a quarterback sneak by Ale Aparicio and a 46-yard run by RB Ethan Guerra. For seniors like Sabercats RB Jamal Polley and WR Jaxson Shupe, it was a tough, emotional loss.
