(Brownsville, Texas)-At Sams Stadium, the Edinburg North Cougars (1-1) came to town and walked away with a hard-fought victory over the Brownsville Rivera Raiders (1-1) on Friday night 19-9 in non-district action. The Raiders will now travel to play Edcouch-Elsa (1-1) next week while the Cougars will host Sharyland Pioneer (2-0) at Richard Flores Stadium on Friday night. “It was a tough defensive battle. The Rivera Raiders played a great game tonight and they are a good team,” says Cougars head football coach, Damian Gonzalez. “Our defense did a great job containing them.”

The Raiders scored first on a field goal with 8:05 left in the half to take a 3-0 lead and then the stadium lights went out. Once the lights came back on at Sams Stadium, everything went dim for the Raiders as they fumbled with the ball going into the end zone and was recovered by the Cougars for a touchdown to make it 7-3. Again in the third quarter, the Raiders fumbled and the Cougars would take it for another score to lead 17-3 on the Raiders musicals. And again, for the third time, the Raiders had a high snap that went into the end zone for a safety to up the Cougars lead 19-3.
