(San Antonio, Texas)-In the University Interscholastic League 5A Boys Basketball finals, defending champions 21-5A Beaumont United HS Timberwolves (35-3) won its second title in a row by defeating District 8-5A Mansfield Timberview (36-4) Wolves 62-57 at the Alamodome-San Antonio, Texas on Saturday afternoon. For United head coach David Green, it was “sweet” as they won a second title in two consecutive trips to the show. ”This is great,” said Green.

Duane Gregory, head coach from Mansfield Timberview has led his Wolves to five UIL Tournament appearances (2009, 17, 19, 20, 22), winning two titles in 2017 and 2019. But, on Saturday, his Wolves were denied a third trophy.

In the final period, Beaumont United led 44-41 over Timberview, but the Wolves would take the lead on a drive to the basket by Chendall Weaver, a 6’3 senior to make it 49-48 over the defending state champions with 3:43 to play. A boisterous Wolves fan crowd kept their team alive as they scored again to make it 51-50 with 2:10 left.

The defending champions never gave up. After a timeout, a 360-spin move to the basket by Wesley Yates III put Beaumont United up 55-53 with 1:21 to play. A steal by Yates for another score ignited the crowd as they led 57-53 with :54 left in the game and they never looked back.
Terrance Arceneaux (6’7) from Beaumont United scored 14 points and grabbed ten rebounds as he was named the MVP in the UIL Class 5A Finals.
