(Corpus Christi, Texas)-The 15-5A DI Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles (11-1) lost to Cedar Park 61-28 in the 5A State semifinals this past season and returns again, to play the 16-5A DI McAllen Memorial Mustangs (11-1) in the regional championships on Friday at Buccaneers Stadium in Corpus Christi. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
The Mustangs will be looking to win its first-ever third round playoff game and a win will match them up against 15-5A DI opponents Flour Bluff-Gregory Portland in the state quarterfinals next week. “We are continuing to work hard and I give credit to my staff and players,” says interim head coach, Moses Patterson.
Leading the Eagles with senior quarterback Aiden Hinojosa, who has taking over the QBI spot after QB Elijah Durette was injured three weeks ago. He has 1,674 yards passing this season.
The Mustangs are a seasoned team with plenty of talent and size. Probably, the best-ever Mustang team yet. The Mustangs features three rambling running backs who have accounted for more than 4,000 rushing yards. Senior RB Ethan Castillo (1,040 yards), Max Alaniz-Choy, (1,277 yards) and Marcos De La Cruz (1,000 yards) have been superb in the playoffs.
