(Corpus Christi, Texas)-The McAllen Memorial Mustangs (11-2) watched their season come to an end with a 35-0 loss to the 15-5A DI Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (12-1) in the Class 5A Region IV Division I Regional Championships on Saturday afternoon at Cabaniss Field.

The weather was cool, and so were the Mustangs as they played great defense in the first half, trailing 7-0 against last season’s state semifinalist. Offensively, the Mustangs were stopped and the Eagles defense played soundly, slowing down the running Mustangs for a total of 97 yards for the day.

The Eagles will now advance to the University Interscholastic League State 5A Division I Quarterfinals for the second straight season against, 15-5A DI rivals Flour Bluff (11-2) who defeated Gregory-Portland. The game is set for Hornet Stadium next Friday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will advance to the state semifinals.
