(Hidalgo, Texas)-For a brief moment, the Grulla Gators (0-2) led 14-6 with 1:34 left in the third quarter, but it was Hidalgo Pirates (2-0) RB Enrique Hernandez breaking loose for a 76-yard touchdown run down the sidelines as he led his team to a 27-14 win at Bill Pate Stadium on Friday night. The game remained tight through the fourth quarter until the Pirates scored 21-unanswered points to win their second game of the season. Hernandez gave the Pirates a 20-14 lead on that long run with 5:33 left to play. On the Gators next possession, Pirates DB Christian Pena intercepted a Gator pass and returned it to the Gators 26-yard line. Hernandez scored on a 17-yard run to put the Pirates up 27-14. “That interception could have been the difference,” said Gators head coach, Abel Gonzales. “We need to get better each week. I’m proud of this team.” The Pirates will travel to play Rio Hondo High School next week on Friday at 7:30 p.m. “We good a good job in the fourth quarter but we still need to improve each week,” said Pirates head coach, Monty Stumbaugh.
