(San Benito, Texas)-In District 32-6A, San Benito Greyhounds (8-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten by defeating the Harlingen Cardinals (5-3, 1-2) 21-10 in a game that San Benito head football coach, Dan Gomez describes as a “12-round” battle on Friday night at Bobby Morrow Stadium. The Greyhounds will now play at Los Fresnos (6-2, 2-1) on Friday while the Cardinals will travel to play Brownsville Rivera at Sams Stadium. “We knew we had to exchange punches for 12 rounds(4 quarters ) with a good team. When the final bell rang we were on top. It was a hard fought victory,” said Greyhounds head football coach, Dan Gomez.
Down 10-0, after a 74-yard touchdown run by Harlingen quarterback Randy Morales in the third quarter, Gomez went to his senior running back Greyhound Fabian Garcia. He went to work and put on a show by scoring two touchdowns for the night to put the Hounds up 14-10. He ended the night with 32 carries for 274 yards rushing, the most carries this season. Senior running back Aaron Garza added the Greyhounds final touchdown to make it 21-10.
Cardinals head football coach, Manny Gomez called it a “great game played” and ended the night by adding, “we are not done.” For the Greyhounds, “The Battle Arroyo” was epic and done. (HSSMImages/Ruiz)
