(Edinburg, Texas)-At Richard Flores Stadium, the Edinburg Bobcats (0-1) lost to HSSM’s No.2 ranked McAllen (1-0) Bulldogs 39-23 on Thursday night. McHi quarterback Joaquin Valdez scored twice and threw for 174 yards, including two more touchdown passes to lead the Bulldogs to its first win of the season. RB Jayden Herrera rushed for 161 yards on 20 carries and one score. He also added another score in the air. The Bulldogs will play host to Mission next Friday at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Bobcats had its chances. With four minutes left in the third quarter, the Bobcats took a 23-18 lead after RB Ryen Abrego found daylight on a 78-yard touchdown run. That lead did not last long as the Bulldogs scored on a touchdown run by Valdez to make it 26-23. That scored sparked the McHi defense as they forced a Bobcat fumble. Valdez would find WR Diego Saavedra on a 27-yard touchdown. Shocked, the Bobcats offense could not get things going. A forced punt gave the ball back to the Bulldogs. Herrera would score again to end the Bobcats hopes of winning its first game of the year. (HSSMImages/Ruiz)
