(McAllen, Texas)-Former Class 4A Soccer Champions (2009) 30-4A Hidalgo Pirates (19-6-2) will kick off its postseason run for another possible title will begin tonight against 29-4A Rockport-Fulton (6-3-1) and the Pirates will have to make this season’s playoff run without head coach Zeke Morales. He was relieved of his duties during the season. The winner will face the winner between three-time State 4A finalists, Progreso (5-3) or Harmony HS (9-8-2). The Pirates are favored to make a run to the 4A State Tournament in Georgetown, Texas.
In Class 5A, the 2004 UIL State Champions, 32-5A Brownsville Lopez Lobos (12-6) will meet 31-5A Valley View (15-5-2), 2021 UIL State 5A Finalists, in the lower bracket tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lopez High School, while the 2012 State Champions, 31-5A Sharyland HS (14-4-2) will play host to 32-5A Brownsville Veterans (14-11) in the first round at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The two-time UIL State 5A Champions (2006 & 2016) 32-5A Brownsville Porter Cowboys (22-2-1) will travel to meet 31-5A PSJA Southwest (8-3-5) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The Valley View Tigers advanced to the UIL State 5A Final Four in 2021 before losing to Humble Kingwood Park 5-4 in the semifinals. Both Sharyland and Porter are expected to meet in the 5A Region IV Quarterfinals. Porter advanced to the 5A Region IV Finals in 2022, losing to Dripping Springs 2-0.
Moving over to Class 6A, the 32-6A Brownsville Rivera Raiders (20-4-3), 2015 State Champions in Class 6A will play host to 31-6A Edinburg (4-5-3) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. The winner will meet 29-6A San Antonio O’Connor or 30-6A Laredo United in the area playoffs. Rivera is expected to meet 28-6A San Antonio Lee 20-0-3 (6A State Champions 2021) in the 6A Region IV Finals. The winner will advance to the state tournament at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas.
The 2023 UIL State Boys and Girls Soccer Championships will be played at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas on April 12-15th. No RGV teams advanced to the UIL StateSoccer Final Four in 2022.
