(Harlingen, Texas)-At Boggus Stadium on Thursday night, the Harlingen South Hawks (6-2, 4-0) made a statement by defeating the Brownsville Lopez (1-8, 1-4) Lobos winning 71-0 in District 16-5A Division I. With the win, the Hawks are headed back to the UIL State 5A football playoffs under Israel Gonzalez. ”We are in the playoffs,” said Gonzalez. ”Now, we need to get ready for Brownsville Veterans next week.”

The Hawks needed just one score on their first possession from running back David Sanchez, who scored on a 43-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 in the first quarter. Harlingen South quarterback Dylan Anaya added two more scores on a 38-yard touchdown and 62-yard sprint for another score. Defensively, the Hawks hauled in four interceptions.
