(Brownsville, Texas)-It was not easy, but the San Benito HS Greyhounds (1-0) survived Brownsville Veterans 17-3 in their season opener on Saturday night at Sams Stadium in Brownsville, Texas. The Chargers kept the game tied at 3-3 until the Greyhounds let loose of junior running back Fabian Garcia late in the game. He rushed for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to finish the night with 170 yards on 22 carries. The Greyhounds totaled 280 yards offensively, for the night. The Greyhounds passed for only 70 yards for the evening with QB Rodney Rodriguez completing 3-of-7 passes for 37 yards.

The Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers and second year head coach, Kelley Lee rushed for 166 yards on 35 carries, using six running backs touching the ball. DB Gilbert Trillo hauled in one interception for the Chargers. The Greyhounds will play host to Brownsville Pace (0-1) this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. while the Chargers will take a week off.
