(Edcouch, Texas)-After leading the District 16-5A DII Edcouch-Elsa HS Yellowjackets to three straight football playoff appearances, head football coach Christian Navarro is stepping down. “Since my Dad died a few years ago, my mother has needed our attention. Now, she needs my attention even more,” said Navarro. After posting a 19-9 record with the Yellowjackets, he will remain as the athletic director.
Navarro appointed first assistant, Victor Cardenas as the interim head football coach to lead the team for the remainder of the season. “Victor has been a great asset to our football program and he will do a great job with our Jackets,” added Navarro.
The University Interscholastic League did some shuffling this past February when they realigned schools throughout Texas with new districts for 2022-2024. The Yellowjackets will now compete in District 15-5A DII with Mercedes, Brownsville Porter, Valley View, Gregory-Portland (2021 State 5A DII Quarterfinals) and last year’s State 5A DII semifinalist, Flour Bluff.
As athletic director, Navarro took over head football coaching duties midway through the 2018 season when the Jackets struggled under then head coach, Bradley Chavez.
The Yellowjackets will kick off its season at home on August 26th against Corpus Christi Carroll. (HSSMImages)

  1. This design is spectacular! You definitely know how to keep a reader entertained. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Fantastic job. I really loved what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

  2. Admiring the commitment you put into your site and detailed information you provide. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same outdated rehashed information. Great read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.
