(Pharr, Texas)-Playing every home game away from Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium due to faulty construction issues, the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots (7-3, 7-1), instead, remained focused on the road to clinch a share of the District 16-5A DII Championship title with their 49-7 win over PSJA Memorial on Thursday night at PSJA Stadium. After the game, Patriots head coach Dave GILPIN talked about their slow start this year. “Recovering after an 0-2 start and to be where we are now, with a share of the district championship, speaks volumes about the mental toughness and character of our team,” said GILPIN.
The win ensures the Patriots a first round seeding and a “home” game at Bennie La Prade Stadium next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against 15-5A DII opponent, Medina Valley (3-6, 2-2) or Floresville (7-2, 2-2) on Thursday night. Both teams meet tonight to determine third and fourth place.
“I’m really proud of our team this year,” said Dave GILPIN, Patriots head coach. “We managed to stay focused throughout the season. This is the second time this has happened to our team when the stadium was being reconstructed.”
On Thursday night, the Wolverines (1-9, 1-7) coached by first-year head coach, Will Littleton ends their season in eighth place.
