(Los Fresnos, Texas)-High School Sports Magazine’s No.2 ranked team, Harlingen South (9-0, 6-0) will travel to meet the No. 11 Los Fresnos Falcons (6-2, 5-1) for the District 32-6A championship title at Leo Aguilar Memorial Stadium on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30p.m.
It’s been a great season for both football programs. Hawks head football coach Israel Gonzalez and Falcons head football coach David Cantu were hired during the offseason and have revived their teams with playoff bound wins.
The Falcons opened its season with a win over playoff bound, Edcouch-Elsa 23-7 but two straight losses to Calallen (27-7) and San Benito ( 38-7) had many fans wondering if the first-year head coach Cantu could bring change to the struggling program. To date, the Falcons have been flying high with wins over Harlingen, Weslaco, and Brownsville Hanna.
Both teams are headed to the University Interscholastic League’s State playoffs. The Hawks will compete in 6A DII and will play PSJA North in the first round while Los Fresnos will be the top seed in 6A Division I and will meet Edinburg or Edinburg North.
