(Edinburg, Texas)-It was a homecoming victory for the Edinburg Economedes Jaguars on Thursday night as they defeated La Joya Juarez Lincoln 19-0 to notched their first District 31-6A win, and a first district win for first-year head football coach, Sean Van de Mergel. “It’s been a rough season but I am so proud of this team and this community tonight,” said the Jags head football coach. “This was a good win for our players and staff.”The Jags led 6-0 at the half, but the Huskies came out with different intentions as they held the Jags inside the red-zone on their first possession to take over on downs. Then it happened, three straight turn overs and one interception spelled doom for the Huskies as they watched the Jags score 13 points on given opportunities. The Jags improved to 2-4, 1-3 overall while the Huskies fell 0-5, 0-3. The Huskies will play host to Mission next Friday while the Jags will take the week off before meeting Mission on October 15th.
