The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots (4-2, 4-0) defeated Sharyland (3-2, 2-1) in a key District 16-5A Division II game, winning 27-16 to remain in first place. The Patriots played defense. They played defense all night long behind DE Mark Champion, who had a big night recovering a fumble and making an interception for a TD return. He finished the night with three quarterback sacks.The Rattlers scored the first seven points in the first half but, patiently, the Patriots waited till the second half. Senior QB Ricky Reyna led his Pats in the second half along with RB Allan Vasquez. He ended the night with 110 yards rushing while Reyna put his team ahead late in the fourth quarter.The Pats will meet PSJA Southwest (0-5, 0-3) next Thursday night while the Rattlers will travel to play Mercedes (5-0, 3-0) next Friday night.
