(Edinburg, Texas)-The Edinburg Vela HS Sabercats (6-0, 4-0) stayed perfect with their 48-7 win over the Edinburg Bobcats (3-3, 3-1) in District 31-6A on Friday at Richard R. Flores Stadium. The win keeps the Sabercats in first place, alone, while the Bobcats drops into four-way tie for second place. “It’s a tough district and we are just glad that we won this game. The Bobcats are a much improved football team with their head football, Rene Guzman. My hats off to that Bobcat team,” said Sabercats head football coach, John Campbell. The Sabercats have outscored their opponents 276-35 this season and it showed why on Friday night.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats came out firing and by the time the quarter was over, they trailed the Sabercats 14-7. The next three quarters, the Bobcats went scoreless as they trailed at the half 24-7. Edinburg Vela senior quarterback Chase Campbell passed for four touchdowns, his second straight 4-TD game, while RB PJ Rivera rushed for two more scores and one receiving touchdown to lead their team to victory. Vela WRs Carlos Tamez, Justin Vega, and Jaxson Shupe all had one touchdown catch from Campbell. The Sabercats will travel to play PSJA (3-2-2-1) this Friday night in another 31-6A game. The Bobcats will meet PSJA North (4-1, 2-1) at home on Thursday. (HSSMImages)
