(Mercedes, Texas)-The Mercedes Tigers (2-0) stayed unbeaten with their 24-14 win over Edinburg North (1-1) on Friday night at Tiger Stadium. Senior quarterback, Michael Cisneros passed for 279 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 114 yards and one touchdown to lead his Tigers. WR Tyrell Trevino made his first debut of the season with two catches for 93 yards and one touchdown. “We had played a good team tonight,” says head coach Roger Adame, Mercedes head football coach.
The Tigers tallied 513 yards on offense despite fumbling the ball three times. Defensively, the Tigers were just as potent. The Tigers caused 17 quarterback hurries and sacked the Cougars QB four times on Friday night. LB Jonathan Alvarado had eight solo tackles, including one QB sack.
The Tigers will play host to the PSJA Memorial Wolverines (0-2) on Friday night to begin District 16-5A Division II. The Tigers are picked to win the title in 2021 by HSSM. “I like the direction our team is going in and we are excited,”adds Adame.
