(Mission, Texas)-The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots will play their “home” games “away” from Tom Landry Stadium due to construction issues. “We had to change our dates,” says Dave Gilpin, head football coach. “We will play all ten games on the road.”  To make matters worst, don’t remind  Gilpin about the 2020 season. The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots won just one game last year. It was their worst performance since 2011 when they finished 2-8. Still, since 2009, Gilpin is 86-49 overall in his coaching career at Mission Veterans, making him one of the winningest football coaches in South Texas. “We will be better this year,” says Gilpin. “Don’t count us out.”  Senior quarterback Ricky Reyna (5’9 165lbs) returns with 2,864 passing yards in his high school career and he will lead the Patriots in 2021.

The Patriots lost to Sharyland Pioneer (49-35), Sharyland (40-25), and Edcouch-Elsa 42-28 to end their season at 1-3 in the shorten COVID-19 season in District 16-5A DII.

Players to watch on defense are DL/LB Mark Champion (6’1 215lbs), who will enter his senior year after sustaining an injury last season. He will be joined by DB Erik Arredondo, LB Cody Van Wald (5’11 200lbs), DL Adrian Garcia (5’10 205lbs), DB Pedro Salinas.

The Pats will meet Mission at Bill Pate Stadium in Hidalgo on Thursday, August 26th.
