(Port Isabel, Texas)-The Port Isabel Tarpons are off to a perfect 5-0, 2-0 start in District 16-4A Division II after defeating Raymondville (2-3, 0-2) 40-22 on Saturday afternoon. “We played a tough Raymondville team. The weather was hot and we tried to keep our team hydrated throughout the day,” says Tarpon head coach Tony Villarreal. Big plays on defense put the Port Isabel Tarpons up 14-0. LB Tristan Garcia put his team on the scoreboard first after stripping the ball and scoring to make it 7-0 in the first quarter and a blocked punt gave the Tarpons great field position. A few plays later, Jayden Lopez would score. Still in the first quarter, the Tarpons would score twice to take a 26-8 lead. Villarreal now has 203 career wins and the Tarpons will travel to play Sinton (4-1, 2-0) for first place. The Tarpons have outscored their opponents 220-82 while Sinton is almost identical with outscoring their opponents 224-79.”They will be a big test for us but I think we match up to them,” says Villarreal.
