(Mission, Texas)-The Mission Veterans Memorial High School Patriots (2-2, 2-0) will play host to Edcouch-Elsa High School (1-3, 1-1) tonight at Richard Thompson Stadium in Sharyland in a key District 16-5A Division II battle. The Patriots are coming off a 48-3 win over Roma while the Yellowjackets are doing just the same, with a 55-6 win over PSJA Southwest. Both teams are in the hunt for four playoff spots in 2021. The Patriots were left out of the state playoffs in 2020 while the Yellowjackets clinched a spot under head coach Christian Navarro. Last week, the Yellowjackets emerged with their running attack behind running back Joshua Gomez, who rushed for over 305 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. (Edinburg, Texas)-The Edinburg Bobcats are 2-0 in District 31-6A under first-year head football coach Rene Guzman. “We are 2-0 and we need to take one game at a time,” says Guzman. Tonight, the Mission Eagles (2-0) will land at Richard R. Flores Stadium with hopes of pulling off another upset win over another Edinburg CISD school.
