(Brownsville, Texas)-In the High School Sports Magazine’s Game of the Week, the McAllen Nikki Rowe Warriors (3-1, 3-0) showed off their passing attack by knocking off Brownsville Pace (2-2, 2-1) Vikings 49-21 in District 16-5A Division I on Thursday night at Sams Stadium. “Enjoy this win tonight,” head coach Robert Flores told his Rowe Warriors after the game. “You deserve this win. In the first quarter, the Warriors scored on three straight possessions to take an early 21-0 lead with quarterback, Mateo Llanas passing for more than 200 yards and three touchdown passes. “Teo did a great job tonight,” said Flores. “Our defense did great too.” The Warriors held the Vikings to 89 total yards on offense.
Llanas entered the game as the leading passer (798 yards) in the Rio Grande Valley, on Thursday night he passed for more than 350 yards to lead the Warriors in their 49-21 win over the Vikings. ” I knew we had to stop their passing game tonight. From the get go, Teo lit up the Pace Vikings in the first quarter with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Chris Zavala and again, Teo would find WR Jorge Diaz for another score from 34-yards out to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. On fourth and 11, the Warriors decided to go for it and Teo spotted Nelson Ramirez for a 25-yard scored, shocking the Pace Viking fans at Sams Stadium. The Warriors led 21-0 in the first quarter with time still left on the clock.
The Warriors will play McAllen Memorial (2-1, 2-0) next Friday night in a key 16-5A Division One showdown while the Pace Vikings will travel to meet Weslaco East (1-1, 0-1) in another important game.
