(Edinburg, Texas)-Edinburg HS WR Jude Vega made a spectacular 35-yard catch for a touchdown from QB JT Santa Maria in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats defeated the 31-6A defending champions, Edinburg North Cougars 34-21 on Friday night. “That catch was unbelievable,” said head coach Rene Guzman. “These are the type of players we have here at Edinburg. We never quit.”
The Bobcats came out running on Friday night. As a matter of fact, the Bobcats rushed for 359 yards on 41 carries, scoring three touchdowns. Two of those scores came from running back, Ryen Abrego. The 5’5” senior ended the night eclipsing the 1,000 yard rushing mark by one yard for a total of 1,001 yards rushing for the year. On Friday night, the senior rushed for two touchdowns and 275 yards on 25 carries.
The win sets up a 31-6A showdown for the outright district title next Friday night at PSJA Stadium with the PSJA Bears.
