(San Benito, Texas)-The San Benito Greyhounds went three rounds in the University Interscholastic League Class 6A Division I Regional Championships and watched its season come to a halt against Austin Westlake. But, that was last season. This season could be much better.
Senior running back Fabian Garcia returns after rushing for 2,230 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns in 2023. In total, he now has 3,434 yards on the ground with 40 scores. He could be unstoppable if head coach Dan Gomez lets him run loose.
The Greyhounds will be loaded with six starters returning on offense and defense. Offensive linemen Zaylen Graham (6’3 275lbs), DL Parrel Reddick (6’2 230lbs), LB Devon Robinson (6’1 9.0 QB sacks 71 tackles), and LB/DB Karmyne Castillja (5 QB Sacks 59 total tackles), all return to give this Greyhound squad enough balance to compete for a district title.
Gomez will lead his team with its season opener against Brownsville Veterans on Friday night, August 25th at 7p.m. before meeting Brownsville Hanna at Sams Stadium in their district opener on October 6th with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. They will also play host to Harlingen on October 20th in the Battle of the Arroyo at Bobby Morrow Stadium.
