(Brownsville, Tx)-The Brownsville Lopez High School Lobos finished last season 1-9 under first-year head football coach, Shaun Tarantola and he was optimistic of what he witnessed on game nights. “Our team did well. We put up points on the scoreboard despite what the record shows,” says Tarantola. “We will be much improved in 2023.”
The Lobos started off with seven straight losses and they are set to open against St. Joseph on Friday night, August 25th. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Hopefully, the Lobos will pick their first win in 2023 early on. They will face Economedes the following week followed by La Joya Palmview. and Grulla.
Players to watch are on offense are RB Eddie Slovak (865 yards rushing 10 TDs) and RB Sabastian Hernandez, WRs Angel Ramirez, Alan Chavez, and Pablo Lopez (366 yards rec). Defensively, DL Saul Rios, LB Brian Lopez, LB Sebastian Hernandez, DL Eduardo Cano (6’3 245lbs), and DE Thaddeus Bogney (6’3 190lbs) will have the task of stopping offenses on Friday nights.
