(Edinburg,Texas)-The 31-5A champions, Sharyland Rattlers are headed for a showdown against the two-time State 5A Champions, 32-5A Brownsville Porter, after knocking off 29-5A Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Tuesday night 5-0. The Cowboys defeated 29-5A Victoria West in a shutout 4-0.
In the upper bracket, both Sharyland (16-4-2) and Porter (24-2-1) will be playing for a spot in the Class 5A Region IV Soccer Tournament to be held at the Brownsville Sports Park next weekend with the winner meeting 28-5A San Antonio Southwest (23-1) or 25-5A Cedar Park (14-7-3).
In another showdown, the Brownsville Lopez Lobos (14-6) shutout Laredo Martin 3-0 to advance to the third round of the 5A State Soccer playoffs while La Juarez-Lincoln (20-2-2) held off McAllen 1-0. Both teams will meet in the UIL 5A Region IV Soccer Quarterfinals with the winner playing Leander (12-7-5) or Leander Rouse (20-2-2) in Brownsville next week in the regional tournament.
In Class 6A, 32-6A Brownsville Rivera (22-4-3) knocked off a top-rated 29-6A San Antonio O’Connor team 1-0 on Tuesday night along with another 32-6A team, Harlingen (13-11-5) sweeping past 30-6A Del Rio 3-2. Both winners will meet this weekend with the winner advancing to the 6A Region IV Tournament next weekend in San Antonio at the Blossom Stadium. The winner will play the defending State 6A champions, San Antonio Lee (22-0-3) or SA Johnson (8-5-3).
In more games, Los Fresnos was eliminated by SA Harlan 2-1 while Laredo Alexander ended Edinburg North’s state title hopes with a 2-0 shutout.
