(Alice, Texas)-It was cold on Friday night in Alice, Texas but inside, the 29-4A Champions, Somerset Bulldogs (29-4) were hot from the three-point line as they defeated 32-4A Port Isabel 93-59 in the University Interscholastic League’s 4A Area Championships at Alice High School. The Bulldogs nailed twelve first-half three-pointers and ended the night with 17-3pointers. The Tarpons probably had double vision just by watching Jersey No. 00 hit six three-pointers alone in the first half. That Bulldog, Shane Perales missed only three (3ptrs) attempts in the first half. Bulldog’s senior Christian Rodriguez (6’6 200lbs) was just superb for the night as he would haul in missed shots by the Tarpons and his long passes down court just proved to be unstoppable.
The Tarpons brought in their full support of fans, the band, the cheerleaders, but still, this did not hinder the hot-hand by Perales. In the first quarter alone, he had two, followed by four more three pointers in the second period, including a “Stephen Curry” like shot from almost half court to take a 35-15 lead with 4:16 left in the half. “I just felt good tonight,” said Perales.
