(La Joya, Texas)-The last time the La Joya Juarez-Lincoln Huskies stepped on the field turf was on November 7, 2019 against PSJA High School at PSJA Stadium. The 30-6A game was a 43-7 loss to finish 2-8 that season. Head coach Tomas Garcia watched his team lose four games in 2019 that proved to be heart-breaking losses.

Losing four games by less than seven points each to Edinburg (20-14), Mission (31-30), La Joya (49-42), and McAllen (28-27) could have all been wins and a successful 6-4 season. Instead, the Huskies finished 2-8, 1-6, and a last place finish with the McAllen Bulldogs.

The Huskies will now play in the newly realgined District 31-6A with hopes of making a run in the State 6A playoffs.

Garcia will lead his team with non-district games against Rio Hondo (8/30) and Sharyland Pioneer (9/5), before traveling to play Edinburg on Thursday night (9/12) to open District 31-6A.

Players to watch in 2021 are RB Giovanni Librado, RB Luis Losoya, QB Javier Castillo, with OL Axel Gonzalez and OL Arian Hernandez. On defense, DB Omar Garcia, LB Jaime Flores, and DL Brandon Mendez will lead their team. “We are excited about 2021. It’s been a long time since our team has been on the field. We will be ready to compete again,” says head coach Tomas Garcia. The Huskies spread offense could surprise teams in District 31-6A as they will kickoff their season for the first time since the realignments switched from 30-6A to 31-6A in 2020 of February. This could be the last season that the Huskies will play in 31-6A with the new realignments coming in 2022.
