(Corpus Christi, Texas)-The Edinburg Vela Sabercats (12-1) lost to Vandegrift HS 38-14 in the Class 6A DII Regional Championships on Saturday at Cabaniss Field. This is the second time the Sabercats have lost to the Vipers in the third round.

The Vipers will now play defending state champions, Austin Westlake (13-0) next week at Darrell Royal Stadium in Austin, home of the Texas Longhorns.

The 25-6A Vipers came out storming by scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead halftime and never looked back. Austin Vandegrift quarterback Brayden Buchanan threw three second quarter touchdowns in the first half and the Baylor baseball commit finished 11-for-21 for 235 yards and five touchdown passes.
