(Pharr, Texas)-In the McDonald’s Thursday Night Game of the Week, Brownsville Veterans senior quarterback Storm Montoya scored from one-yard out as the Chargers defeated PSJA Memorial 34-3 at PSJA ISD Stadium in non-conference play. “We were a little rusty tonight,” said Brownsville Veterans Memorial head coach, JC Ramirez. “This was our first game we played this month because we did not play any scrimmages.”

On the Chargers first possession, running back Cesar Belmontes broke loose for a 51-yard touchdown to put Brownsville Veterans up 7-3 in the first quarter with 9:22 left. It was the only score the Chargers needed for the night as the defense took over. Belmontes led all rushers with 122 yards on 12 carries. PSJA Memorial kicker Omar Garcia nailed a 50-yard field goal to give the Wolverines its only score of the evening. “I want to give credit to our defensive coordinator Benny Ellison for preparing our team against a very good Wolverine team,” said Ramirez.

Well? Brownsville Veterans Chargers head coach JC Ramirez questions the first down marker call as they defeated PSJA Memorial 34-3 on Thursday night. (HSSMImages/Flores)
