(Edinburg, Texas)-The Edinburg North Cougars are headed back to the University Interscholastic League Class 6A Region IV Boys Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2017 as they ousted 31-6A fourth place team, Edinburg Economedes 4-1 in the regional quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Richard R. Flores Stadium. With the win, the Cougars will meet San Antonio Johnson (18-4-3) on Friday at the Blossom Stadium in San Antonio, Texas. Both teams will meet at 4:00 p.m. “Our team deserves this win,” said Cougars head coach Elias Moran. “We talked about getting back to the tournament and now, we are back.”

The Cougars jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half with two scores by Erick Gonzalez and Kenneth Reyes followed by another kick past the Jaguars goalie by Jesus Martinez to make it 3-0. The Jaguars would score on a penalty kick to make it 3-1 by Bryan Garcia. The Cougars Martinez scored on their next possession to make it 4-1 at the half.

The 31-6A Champions, Cougars (13-6) will meet 28-6A Champions, San Antonio Johnson Jaguars after battling Austin Westlake (18-4-3) with a 2-1 win. The Jags will meet the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. at the Blossom Center in San Antonio in the Class 6A Region IV Semifinals. (HSSMIMages)
