(Brownsville, Texas)-District 32-5A Brownsville Lopez High School (23-2-2) head soccer coach Amadeo Escandon watched as they scored the winning kick to beat rivals, Brownsville Veterans Memorial on Tuesday at Charger Stadium 1-0. With the win, the Lobos will meet 28-5A District Champions, San Antonio Southwest (22-2-1) at 4:00 p.m. at the Brownsville Sports Park on Friday. The Dragons lost to Sharyland in the regional semifinals 2-0 in 2023.

Escandon was drenched with water jugs during his HSSM Interview with Gabe De Leon, sportswriter/photograher as the Lobos took their coach away to celebrate. “This is unbelievable, but we are back,” said Escandon. The Lobos lost to Leander Rouse last year in the fourth round.

The Lobos won its first UIL State 4A title in 2004 water beating Brenham 2-1 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas. That was 20-years ago. In 2024, the Lobos has recorded 17 game shutouts.
