(Weslaco, Texas)-“I knew it was going to be a big battle tonight. We are all fighting for positions. We are battling for a district title. We now travel to have play Los Fresnos next week,” said Weslaco Panthers head basketball coach, Gabe Valdez. On Friday night, it was a defensive battle as the Weslaco Panthers (16-17, 6-3) upset the Harlingen Cardinals (30-6, 6-3) 33-32 to move into a second place tie with the Cards. A win against Los Fresnos (27-8, 7-2) next Tuesday could create a two-way tied for the district title with the Brownsville Hanna Eagles (24-12, 6-3), as they defeated San Benito 65-37 on Friday night. The Eagles will now play Harlingen on Tuesday. (HSSMImages/DeLeon)
