(Pharr, Texas)-The State 5A Division I Ranked No.7 PSJA North Raiders (10-0, 7-0) captured its second consecutive District 15-5A Division I title by defeating Rio Grande City (3-7, 2-5) 57-14 on Friday at Joe R. Sanchez Stadium in Rio Grande City. The Raiders has now won twenty-straight district games. “It’s nice to have something to show for after all the hard work these players have put in, but we are not done,” says Raiders head coach, Marcus Kaufmann. With the win, the Raiders will kickoff the playoffs by hosting the 16-5A DI Donna Redskins (6-4, 3-3) in the Class 5A Division I Bi-District Championships on Thursday night. The winner will meet Victoria East (7-3) or Medina Valley (5-5) in the area playoffs.

In a shocker, the Valley View Tigers (3-7, 2-3) defeated Edcouch-Elsa (4-6, 3-7) 16-7 to clinch a playoff spot under head coach Hector Ayala. With the Tigers win, the Mercedes Tigers were eliminated while the Yellowjackets captured the final spot. The Valley View Tigers are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2018 and will travel to play Mission Veterans on Friday night at Tom Landry Hall of Fame Stadium.

At Bobby Morrow Stadium, the San Benito Greyhounds (9-1, 5-1) fumbled inside the 20-yard line with less than 5:00 minutes to play in regulation, giving the Panthers a chance to make a come back. RB Eli Rodriguez caught a pass for 60-yards to put the Panthers up. San Benito countered by tying the game at 14-14 to send the game to overtime. It took two overtimes for the Panthers to win it all, 27-21. “Nobody picked us to win except HSSM, but tonight this win is for our team, coaches, and our community,” said Panther head coach, Roy Stroman. “This is the first title since 2015 and bringing the gold trophy back home feels great.” The Panthers will play host to Mission (4-6) on Friday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. in the Class 6A Division II Bi-District Championships.

And finally, the La Villa Cardinals (8-2, 5-0) captured their third straight District 16-2A Division I title by knocking off Freer 38-20. The Cardinals will play at Premont on Thursday against Three Rivers (6-4) at 7:00 p.m. “It’s amazing. To win three straight titles is amazing,” said Cardinals head coach Daniel Perez.
