(Brownsville, Texas)-At Sams Stadium, the Brownsville Hanna Eagles (1-1) came from behind to hand the Sharyland Rattlers its first loss of the season, as the Eagles won 33-22. The Eagles will travel to play Harlingen South (0-2) next Friday night a Boggus Stadium while the Rattlers (1-1) will host McAllen Nikki Rowe (1-1) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. The Eagles trailed Sharyland 22-12 going into the fourth quarter. Eagles head coach, Mark Guess pulled out all the plays from his secret play book and unleashed his team as they scored 21-unanswered points for the win.
The Sharyland Rattlers started the night with a 89-yard kickoff return by Sebastian Martinez, despite bumping into one of his players, and broke several tackles, only to find daylight down the sidelines to take an early 8-0 lead after going for two points. Hanna QB Ramiro Ruiz was picked off by Sharyland DB Homero Garcia but the Eagles responded by stopping the Rattlers on that possession. Sharyland QB Bo Krell led the Rattlers on their next drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to WR Eduardo Martinez to make it 15-6 in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Krell showed his poise with only one returning starter from last season’s 16-5A Division II championship, by throwing a 39-yard bomb into the hands of WR Martinez for a catch. Mendoza would make it 22-12 on a touchdown pass from Krell. “We had moved the ball all night, despite our four turnovers. But, we never quit,” said Guess. “Good things happen.” (HSSMImages/GabeDeLeon)
