(Donna, Texas)-At Bennie La Prade Stadium, the PSJA Memorial Wolverines (3-0) knocked off the Donna Redskins (2-1) 28-17 to remain undefeated in their first three games under head coach Will Littleton. “We played some good football tonight and we are getting better each week,” said Littleton. “Tonight was a big win for our team.”
It was all about the run. The Redskins, favored to win by ten points by HSSM, watched Memorial RB Miguel Resendiz rush for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries and RB Emiliano Colunga added another 154 rushing yards as the Wolverines wore down the Redskins for 482 total offensive yards for the night.
Wolverines 6’3 junior QB Ryan Reyna was poised throughout the night despite trailing Donna 10-7 in the second quarter, still he kept their drives moving, finding WR Robert Moralez for 24-yard catch inside the 5-yard line. Resendiz would score on a pass from Reyna to make it 14-10. In the third quarter with Wolverines driving, Reyna handed the ball to Resendiz and he would break loose for a 34-yard run to the Donna 24-yard line. A few plays later, Resendiz scored to put the Wolverines up 21-10. In the fourth quarter, with the Wolverines leading 28-17, RB Colunga took a handoff from Reyna and he punched through the Redskins defense for a 82-yard run to end the Redskins hopes for a come back.
Redskins QB Geoffrey LeFevre came into the game ranked No.5 amongst passing leaders in Texas with 801 yards and the Wolverines held the 6’3 junior quarterback to 173 yards passing with one touchdown. He now has 974 passing yards in three games. (HSSMImages/Flores)
