(Brownsville, Texas)-The Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots ended its three-game losing streak by defeating the Brownsville Hanna (1-4) Eagles 49-19. With the win, the Patriots will take a week off before opening District 16-5A Division against Sharyland Pioneer (4-0). “We played a great football team and Hanna called a h Marc Guess played us tough and never gave up,” said Patriots head football coach, Dave GILPIN.
With :02 seconds left to play trailing 49-13, Guess called timeout with his Eagles at the Patriots 35-yard line. Resuming play, Hanna QB Ramiro Ruiz threw a “Hail Mary” with WR Joseph Ruiz making a sliding catch in the endzone for a touchdown.
But, the heroics on Thursday night went to senior quarterback Braden Luedeker, who passed for five touchdowns and ran for two more to lead his Patriots. “This was a great win tonight and we need to get ready for our district game in two weeks. Our team played lights out tonight,” said Luedeker. The senior quarterback passed for 328 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for another two scores. (HSSMImages)
