(Brownsville, Texas)-At the Brownsville Sports Park, it’s set. The undefeated 26-5A Smithson Valley Lady Rangers (26-0) will take on the 31-5A McAllen High School Lady Bulldogs (23-1-2) on Saturday in the Class 5A Region IV Girls Soccer Championships. Kickoff is set for 10:00 a.m.
Freshman Morgan Heintz scored in the second half with 35:24 left in game to put Smithson Valley up 3-0 over the Lady Mustangs in the Class 5A Regional Semifinals on Friday afternoon.
The Rangers, in the first half, showed why they were undefeated by scoring back-to-back goals within a minute and a half to take it quick 2-0 lead over Lady Mustangs.
In the second half, the Lady Mustangs fought, but the Lady Rangers kept attacking as Taber Sabrina added another goal on a sweep past the goalie to make it 4-0 with 32:08 left to play. A few minutes later, Senior Aura Lopez scored at the 26:24 mark to make it 5-0. With 24:46 Jasmine Dominguez made it 6-0.
District 31-5A champions, McAllen (23-1-2) will meet 26-5A champions, Smithson Valley (26-0) in the Class 5A Region IV Championships with the winner advancing to the University Interscholastic Leagues State 5A Girls Soccer tournament next weekend at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown, Texas. “It feels awesome,” said McAllen HS head coach Patrick Arney. “We still one more game.” The Lady Bulldogs defeated Leander 2-1 in overtime in the regional semifinals on Friday to advance to the finals.
