Shocker! Edinburg Vela Knocks Down Lady Hornets in 5A Area Playoffs…
(Falfurrias, Texas)-At Falfurrias High School, the 31-5A Edinburg Vela Sabercats (30-4) defeated Flour Bluff (23-6) in the UIL Class 5A Girls Area Championships 42-39 to advance to the third for the first time in school history under head coach Lottie Zarate. “We’re not done yet,” she told her players after their win.
The Lady Hornets scored 12-unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 32-30 lead into the final period. In the end, the Lady Sabercats held on with Emma Lucio finding Karsyn Hackerott for two points to make it 42-39.
The Lady Sabercats will meet 32-5A Brownsville Veterans Memorial in the Class 5A Regional Quarterfinals next week with the winner meeting Kerrville Tivy or Liberty Hill in the regional semifinals next Friday.
