(San Antonio, Texas)-The 32-6A Harlingen Cardinals (12-1) watched their perfect season come to an end on Saturday morning as the 26-6A Dripping Spring Tigers (12-1) won 45-0 to advance to the UIL State 6A DII Quarterfinals next against Vandegrift (11-2).
It was those fourth downs that plagued the Cardinals early on. From bobbled punts, to over-the-head snaps, which gave the Tigers all that they needed to put quick points on the scoreboard at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. “We gave them opportunities,” said Harlingen head coach Manny Gomez. “Still, I’m so proud of the way our team played this season and all glory to God.”
Baylor-commit, quarterback Austin Novosad made it look easy as he connected with WR Kyle Koch as he handed the ball, twice, and he would score on a 23, 22-yard touchdown runs, including a 87-yard touchdown pass, a sprint, to put the Tigers up 35-0 at the half. He only needed three touches for his three scores. Koch ended the day with three passes caught for 136 yards and rushed three times for 48 yards.
Tigers Head Coach, Galen Zimmerman says, “Our team is well disciplined and that makes me proud. Overall, the Harlingen Cardinals are a great football program.” Novosad passed for 230 yards and two touchdowns before leaving after three quarters. (HSSMImages/GabeDeLeon)
