(Austin, Texas/VIA Zoom)-One by one, eleven San Marcos High School football players, who transferred in from various schools from within the 27-6A District were all denied to play football at the varsity level at San Marcos High School for the next three years. One parent asked, “can we still go play football at Judson HS if we transfer back?” The UIL responded with a “Yes”.

San Marcos head football coach, John Walsh had no comments throughout the UIL executive committee, other than being asked by one UIL executive director, “are you not familiar with the hiring process of coaches or volunteer coaches. You have to be a full time employee of a school district.” He previously resigned from Denton Guyer HS in 2020 after winning two state titles.
All eleven players will be banned to play varsity sports at San Marcos High School for the next three years but, can still play junior varsity sports.

Most transferred athletes were underclassmen and parents all said that their moves were for academic purposes. The UIL asked one parent, who said that, “transferring to San Marcos HS would be good for her son because he would stay out of trouble and concentrate on his academics.” The UIL State committee membered asked, “then why would her daughter not transfer to San Marcos HS too.” The mother’s response was simple, “she was already established at her high school.”

All eleven players who transferred to San Marcos played on the same football leagues teams for the past two years. UIL State Executive Committee Chair is Mike Motheral from Sundown ISD.
